Robotics is a club sponsored by BEST Robotics that promotes STEM-based careers to high school and middle school students. Themes are selected annually and this year it was Demo Daze. Demo Daze focuses on the need for safe demolition on construction sites.
While the robotics team works as a whole, there are many smaller branches to finish the tasks needed from researching the topic, writing a research paper, building an exhibit, creating a marketing presentation where we pretend to sell our robot to investors, and community outreach. As well as, building and programming a robot to perform on the course. Our robot, DEB (Demo Educational Bot) was designed and programmed to safely demolish a building site, collect recyclable materials, and gather debris into dumpsters for removal from the site. Every team is given a kit filled with materials and is allowed to build a robot within weight and height requirements. Rustler Robotics functions like a company with a CEO, this year it was Alana Howard.
On the brutally cold morning of Saturday, November 13, the robotics team headed to Brooking, for their competition. After an eventful day, the results were in. While Rustler Robotics did not make it to regionals this year, it was a nice refresher from no robotics season in 2020. Rustler Robotics has something for all interests so if you are interested talk to Mrs. Fiala or Mr. Whetsel to join for the 2022 season.
