Trip to Brookings

On Sunday April 24, twenty-three FFA students traveled to State FFA in Brookings. There were several awards handed out to students including 5 top 3 proficiency awards. Proficiency awards consist of filling out a resume and questionnaire based on your summer SAE/job. These are judges at the district levels and then the top three out of all districts make it to state. Alana Howard was a finalist in Diversifies Livestock Production and Swine Production Entrepreneurship. Alana received first place in Swine Production and second place in Diversified Livestock. Alana also was a top four finalist for STAR farmer, for this she received and plaque and a cash reward. Aubrey DeHaai was a finalist for the Small Animal Production and Care proficiency and earned first place. Sabrah Morris was top three finalist in Veterinary Science receiving second place. Noah Johnson competed in the Landscape Management proficiency and received third. This year 5 seniors received their State Degrees, Noah Johnson, Brielee Conkey, Cooper Oakley, Aubrey DeHaai, Taya Pawlowski and Alana Howard. Alana and Taya also each received a $500 scholarship. Paton Coyle was recognized as the District 6 Star Greenhand and received a plaque and cash prize. When it comes to the CDE events, the mechanics team won huge coming home with a first place finish as a team, Jaden Anderberg placing 1st individually. Jaden’s team members consisted of Briggs Runge and Trevor Werdel. Briggs placed 11th and Trevor placed 15th . This earned the Ag Mechanics team a spot in Nationals this fall. The Poultry team placed 4th with two of its members placing high; Andrew Knox 7th and Noah Johnson 8th. The meats judging team placed 8th as a team with Teagan Foreman carrying the team with an 18th place finish. Alana Howard was also part of the Veterinary Science team which placed 10th with Alana placing 18th. To wrap it all up, Mark Ketelhut was recognized with an award for all his years of dedicated teaching and being an amazing mentor for all his students.
